The Breeder

The members of the operating community would like to introduce themselves here. The following Shropshire flock book breeders are the initiators of this website:

Martin Maszull:

We are out of conviction Flock book breeders and want to attract particularly good breeding animals of the sheep breed Shropshire, in order to make this also available to other breeders. We want to harness the environmental resources of our farm in a natural way and not at the expense of the environment.

Thorsten Naumann:

We graze with our sheep about 5ha of grassland and the orchards of our former farm in the eastern Wetterau, at the foot of the Vogelsberg, also called Upper Hesse.
We came to the Shropshire sheep in 2009 in search of an ecological way of looking after our orchards. From the beginning, a great passion and passion has developed for this breed, which drives us to this day.

We have been breeding in the Hessian flock book since 2012 and are members of the Shropshire Sheep Breeders Association and Flock Book Society England.

In recent years, we have imported several animals from England in order to be broader in the bloodlines and to increase the level of our flock.

Yanik Rickert:

After one year of Shropshire sheep farming we started in 2014 with the flock book breeding of the Shropshire sheep. As we have focused on landscape preservation of Christmas tree and orchard crops, we have built a small herd of Shropshire sheep for these demanding areas that fits perfectly with our concept.

We give our Shropshire sheep for cultural care

"We mow your Christmas tree cultures"

Benedikt Kersting:

We operate a conventional agricultural full-time farm in Hochsauerland with dairy cattle and (for the Sauerland typical) 10 hectares of Christmas tree crops. In it we hold about 50 Shropshire sheep in the flock book. Our goal is to cultivate the cultures with breed-typical animals and thus to limit the use of herbicides to a minimum.

We, the family Kesting from Bad Arolsen breed since 2003 Shropshire sheep in the flock book. Our sheep graze on extensive areas, orchards, wet meadows and Christmas tree cultures. The stock size is closely adapted to the grazing possibilities and is an average of 12 ewes, plus female and male offspring and 2 breeders of different bloodlines. We aim to keep our entire population in genotype G 1, which has been reached to 80% so far. It is our breeding goal to breed a unassuming, well-muscled and robust Shropshire sheep, which can present a decent amount of meat even in difficult pasture conditions. We invite you to visit our website: www.shropshire-schafe.eu. Thanks for your interest!
